January 25, 2013, Lee’s Summit, MO – The 10th annual Mayor’s Character Breakfast was held yesterday at the Pavilion at John Knox Village. Hosted by the Lee’s Summit CARES organization, the event had a record crowd with nearly 600 in attendance. The breakfast concluded with presentations of annual awards and this year The Fristoe Group, Inc, received the Ethics in Business Award. The award was presented to TFG President Daren Fristoe by Mayor Randy Rhoads and Carl Chinnery.

“I was not only surprised by the presentation,” said Fristoe, “but quite humbled. Our community of business owners is overflowing with stellar examples of honest, hardworking businessmen and women and while we were proud to be honored, it is with an attitude of sincere humility that we accept.”

Other attendees were honored with awards for Entrepreneurial Spirit, Perseverance, Responsibility, Family, Compassion, Citizenship, Loyalty, Kindness, Cooperation, Empathy, Courage, Honesty and Generosity. “Lee’s Summit is a fabulous place to live, do business and raise a family,” Fristoe added. “Mayor Rhoads is never at a loss to find recipients for these character awards here in Lee’s Summit. in fact, I’m sure I would not want the job of choosing as so many examples of good character are displayed throughout the year that the task must be daunting at best.”

That message was borne out by Les Norman, former Royals baseball player, now a sports radio host, who shared moving stories and his love for Lee’s Summit and it’s citizenry as keynote speaker at the Mayor’s Character Breakfast. Norman said that while his career took him to many other States and cities, Lee’s Summit always stood out for its community members of great character. People who have already affected his own family’s lives for the better. “In Lee’s Summit I see that every day, in so many ways,” he said.
